| Mario Mendones Gajo holds the rank and title of Master in Babao Style of Arnis de Mano under Grand Master Narrie Babao, Babao Arnis Academy (San Diego, CA), Babao Arnis System. Like the three sides of the triangle, the Babao Arnis system is composed of three main fighting systems; Villabrille-Largusa Kali, Cacoy Doce Pares Eskrima, and the original Baston Batangas taught by Turing Babao. The Babao Arnis System also includes the arts of Numerado, Cinco Tera, Kuntao, Mano Mano, & Dumog, among others. Master Mario also trained in: Hawaiian Kenpo Karate under Professor George Wallace, Pearl Harbor Youth Center (Hawaii, USA); Philippine Martial Arts with Guro Ted Lucaylucay, Lee Jun Fan Academy (Orange County, CA); & Shito Ryu Karate under 2nd Dan Black Belt Marcelino Gajo. On September 24, 1986, Mario Gajo started training in Babao Arnis by then Guro Narrie Babao. In 1989, Mario Gajo was certified as an instructor (Maestro) in Babao Arnis by Guro Narrie Babao. From 1992-1996, Maestro Mario Gajo began instructed Philippine Martial Arts at Black Tiger Gym (San Diego, CA 92126). Also trained in Black Tiger Muay Thai under Kru Vince Soberano. In 1996, when then Guro Narrie Babao was conferred to the rank of 6th Grade Master of Doce Pares Eskrima by Grandmaster Cacoy Canete, Mario Gajo was conferred to the rank and title of Guro in Babao Arnis by Master Narrie Babao. Guro Mario Gajo began instructing Philippine Martial Arts at Mel's House of Thunder. From 1996-1998, Guro Mario Gajo instructed Philippine Martial Arts at Mel's House of Thunder (San Diego, CA 92126). In 1998, Guro Mario established his own martial arts school called Gajo Martial Arts Bothoan. (V. Tajalle-Gajo, 2009). Mario Gajo is the Philippine Martial Arts instructor of Maestro Joe Benedito, designer of Martial Arts: A Hybrid Learning Approach. (J. Benedito, personal communication, 2011). From 1998-2005, Guro Mario Gajo instructed Philippine Martial Arts at his residence. (San Diego, CA 92126). From 2005-2007, Guro Mario Gajo began instructing Philippine Martial Arts at Escondido Kung Fu & Tai Chi (Escondido, CA 92025). In Spring 2008, Guro Mario Gajo instructed Philippine Martial Arts at the University of San Diego (San Diego, CA 92110). From June 2008-April 2012, Guro Mario Gajo instructed Philippine Martial Arts at West Coast Martial Arts Academy (San Diego, CA 92127). On August 01, 2009, he was certified Kru (6th Khan) under Adjarn Vince Soberano, Black Tiger Muay Thai Gym. (Black Tiger Kaewsamrit Muay Thai). From May 2012-April 2013, Guro Mario Gajo instructed Philippine Martial Arts at We Love Kempo (San Diego, CA 92128). From March 2014-October 25, 2014, Guro Mario Gajo instructed Philippine Martial Arts at Lopez Ridge Recreation Center (San Diego, CA 92126). On June 04, 2014, Guro Mario was promoted to 1st Grade Black Belt in Cacoy Doce Pares by SGM Cacoy Canete via GM Kitty Canete-Knight by recommendation of Master Narrison Babao. (K. Canete-Knight, personal communication, April 12, 2014) On August 01, 2014, Guro Mario was inducted into the Martial Arts Masters Hall of Fame and received the Platinum Life Achievement Award for Filipino Martial Arts. On November 12, 2017, Senior Guro Mario Mendones Gajo,founder of San Diego Filipino Martial Arts was promoted to the rank & title of Master in Babao Style of Arnis de Mano. |
